You can download it for free from iSlayer’s website My Menu bar looks like this It’s mostly identical to similar tools available on Linux. I have been using for three years and have had no problems with compatibility or performance. iStat Menus 6.5 is a significant update with design refinements. iStat Menus is highly configurable, with full support for macOS’ light and dark menubar modes. I regard this software as a must have for understanding how your system is performing. All in a highly optimized, low-resource package As well as being easier to theme, iStat Menus 6 introduces new ways to color and style the menu bar icons, menu dropdowns, and graphs. I guess if you are having problems then turn it on, but otherwise, don’t use it. I have dropped some screenshots on my configuration below.įor example, knowing the temperature of my CPU or HDD just isn’t relevant. I have reduced my configuration to just the four key elements of system performance. It distracts your attention and can create clutter. To remove one from the menu bar, you actually can’t drag it out from there, you need to go back to it in Control Center click and do a short drag (any direction) on it, you’ll hear a sound. Once you’ve installed it in your menu bar, click Sensors > Fans > Select Medium or Edit fan rules to adjust fan speeds as you like (reducing the speed should reduce the heat). Some advice: try not to overload the toolbar with information. iStat Menus has a cool controller for sensors, which lets you adjust fan settings to reduce the heat. Can’t wait for SSD drives to get a bit larger so I can remove this bottleneck. I have discovered, for my system, that the HDD is slowest part and is constantly blocking my applications from performing faster. ![]()
